It took me some time to understand the importance of fruits in my diet. We tend to let simple day-to-day things go unnoticed when we plan a big mission like a new diet. This tendency of us humans is the simplest reason to why we don’t use fruits to enrich our diet.
However, there are other reasons:
* We confuse fruits with other sweets we should avoid
* We are not used to integrate fruits in our daily routine
* We just do not know what exactly is in there
So let’s get started with what’s in there.
Fruits contain 75% - 95% water, just like the human body.
Fruits contain a lot of good minerals and lots of fiber.
Fruits have zero bad cholesterol.
In addition, eating enough fruits (and vegetables for that matter) really helps your digestion process. In other words, fruits cannot harm you but can improve your weight loss efforts miraculously. There are many ways to utilize fruits in your diet.
The first thing should be buying fruit and have them available to you throughout the day. Try having fruit in a bowl on your kitchen table or in your bag when you are at work or anywhere you plan to be for more than a few hours. I would also suggest starting the day with any kind of fruit with your breakfast.
Fruits have a very energizing effect. You should take advantage of it and eat an apple when you feel a bit tired during the day. Fruits can also be of great use when hunger starts creeping in. If you know you are not going to eat soon and you start feeling hungry, just eat a peach or a banana and it will satisfy you for a while.
You can also solve your snack problem with fruit. Switch all of your candy bars and snacks with fruit and you will see results very quickly.
But we are not here only to lose weight, are we?
In addition to being “thinner” then candy bars and other foods, fruits are also very healthy. If you think about it, fruits are the most natural food supplements.
Of course in our days they are sprayed and being grown in not all natural conditions but still, fruits are a lot more natural than virtually everything else we eat. Fruits strengthen your immune system, help your digestion and generally make you feel good.
The last thing I want to say is this: It’s easier then you think to include fruits in your diet. I am a big fan of simplicity. This is just one little change to make and results will be apparent.
So now you don’t have any excuse, just buy some fruit and get used to it. It will help you achieve one more thing in your diet with very little effort.

Diet fads come and go as we search for the magic formula. The majority of dieters continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. Weight loss requires a lifestyle change and most are unable or unwilling to follow through. There are three main mistakes that prevent permanent weight loss.
1. The Diet myth
Americans want a fast and easy answer, and there are to many publishers that are all to willing to sell them a dream. The book stores are full of diet books that profess their magic. Low fat, no fat, no carbs and the list goes on, and on, and on. These diets seem to work for the short term, partially because people cut the garbage from their daily menu and stick to a plan. Days later weakness sets in and with one mistake they give up the diet entirely.
Fad diets sell books, but the truth is, simple math; Calories in minus calories out. If you take in more calories than you burn you gain weight, when you burn more than you eat, you loose weight. If the dieter would cut from their daily menu, most of the high fat and processed foods, and substitute them with fruit or vegetables, the results would be effective. Add in some moderate exercise and you have the answer. Kirstie Alley on Oprah last week, reveled that she has a new weight loss plan in the development stage. Her plan will include a lifestyle change.
2. The Diet as a sacrifice
Human nature causes us to seek pleasure and move away from pain. When we think of the word, diet, we automatically think sacrifice and giving up fun and pleasurable foods. We latch on to the latest diet fad that seems the least difficult to commit to. After having some success losing weight we return to the bad habit of eating for pleasure and not for nutrition.
If we would consume the food we enjoy in moderation it would lesson the return of the weight gain. Again, a lifestyle change is needed.
3. The Diet means change
The majority of people resent change, sometimes the mere mention of it results in stress and anger. A diet plan is a change in eating habits and if that change can be viewed as temporary it lessens the blow. We essentially set ourselves up to fail. Until we understand that to loose weight and keep it off we need a complete lifestyle change we will continue the pattern. It is necessary to view food as nutrition and not comfort.
When Kristie Alley unveiled her new weight loss plan on Oprah, she will surely include eating healthy, moderate exercise and a lifestyle change. The population as a whole needs to be more active, get some daily exercise. Moderate workouts are effective and can be as simple as walking or dancing. A small change in lifestyle will help to make great strides in achieving you goals. Eat healthy, drink lots of water, have enough sleep and exercise. This will give you a higher chance of losing weight and improving your health, which would result to a new, healthier you, just ask Oprah and Kirstie Alley.

Q1. What types of bariatric surgery do you perform?
There are two primary types of bariatric surgery plus the newer gastric banding surgery. Bileopancreatic diversion bypass & Roux-en-Y-gastric bypass.
In both bariatric bypass surgeries, a small pouch is created by stapling a portion of the stomach. The small intestine is then attached to the stomach so that food bypasses the upper part of the small intestine (the duodenum). This results in significantly reduced food intake and the patient also feels full sooner. With both of these techniques, the patient loses most weight in the first year, and weight loss is usually complete by the end of the second year. Both procedures are permanent and cannot be reversed.
Gastric banding involves placement of a silicone band around the upper stomach to restrict food intake. This slows the passage of food to the lower stomach, resulting in the patient feeling full sooner. This band can be inflated or deflated to reduce or increase the size of the passage between the two stomachs. This surgery is done laparoscopically and has the least recovery time. In some cases, this surgery can be done on an outpatient basis.
While the two bypass surgeries may limit the foods the patient can tolerate, the banding procedure only limits quantity. Over time, patients who undergo gastric banding may be more likely to regain the weight lost.

Q2. If you prefer one bariatric procedure over the others, could you explain why? What are the factors you use in deciding which to perform?
The Roux-en-Y procedure is the most commonly performed bariatric procedure and produces good weight loss, usually up to 50 to 60 percent of excess weight in the first two years. It is less invasive than the bileopancreatic diversion surgery, can be done laparoscopically in some cases, and recovery time is usually quicker. It has a lower risk of complications and nutritional deficiencies.
Laparoscopic banding (also known as lap band) is the least invasive but requires a great deal of patient compliance to achieve maximum weight loss. Gastric banding also requires frequent doctor follow-up at to adjust the band. It is reversible when weight loss is complete.
Q3. Are there any things that might disqualify me for the surgery?
• Active substance abuse
Active substance abuse is an immediate disqualification. You must not be actively using any addictive substances, other than physician-prescribed medications, at the time of surgery. You must also be able to abstain from alcohol for a period of time before and after surgery.
• Untreated mental illnesses
Personality disorders such as schizophrenia or depression, are also a cause for disqualification. You must be able to show that you understand the nature of the surgery and the lifestyle changes required, and that you are willing to comply.
• Life threatening disease
If you have a life-threatening disease, such as cancer, that is not likely to improve with weight loss, you may not qualify for bariatric surgery.
• Non-compliance with other medical treatments
A failure to address diabetes or other treatable conditions will also disqualify you.
Q4. What types of ongoing support do you provide for your patients? Do you have support groups at your clinic or do you refer patients somewhere specific?
As with other weight-loss programs, bariatric surgery requires significant lifestyle changes. A support group is important both before and after the surgery. There are support groups in the community, often offered by hospitals or clinics.
Following surgery, the support group will provide you with tips as you learn new behaviors. It will also give you a place to find support for the physical and emotional changes you are going through from others who have also had the surgery.
It is important to remember that you will need a local lap band post-operative care center for your adjustments. If you decide on medical travel instead of a local surgeon, be sure to discuss this post-operative care need with your doctor.
Q5. How long have you been performing bariatric surgery and how many of that specific type of surgery that you are recommending has the doctor performed?
Bariatric surgery is medical specialty that requires training and ongoing continuing education. Look for a doctor who has done many surgeries and don’t be afraid to ask his success rate, including his complication and mortality rates.

EIGHT: Eat Fresh Food
This one is a no-brainer. The basis of your diet should be fresh unprocessed foods. Stay away from the protein bars and shakes and packaged stuff. Not only are they expensive, they really are no substitute for the real thing. Eat fresh.
NINE: Eat Protein with Every Meal
According to nutritional experts, our metabolism needs one gram of protein for every kilogram of body weight per day. I suggest you eat a small amount of protein with every meal. For example, I cook 8 different vegetables in water and a splash of olive oil and combine this with one egg for breakfast. For lunch I eat 100g of cooked free-range chicken with fresh salad. Dinner is more vegetables stir-fried with 200g tofu and chili sauce. YUM! Of course you have your own specific tastes but you get the picture…..protein makes for a lean physique.
TEN: Never EVER Give Up

These toxins are ingested by all of us in a variety of ways: bad air, chemically enhanced public water, pesticide coated foods, etc. These foreign invaders are isolated by our bodies in fat cells, where they do the least damage to our system. The other two factors that play into rapid weight loss is to make sure your body gets enough protein during a 24 hour period. The easiest way to accomplish this is by using a protein supplement (normally in powdered form) which you mix into a drink (or a shake or a soup). Figure about one gram of protein per pound of body weight.
At the same time, you’ll want to limit your intake of bad carbohydrates (think Potato Chips, Popcorn, etc.) and fat. This will cause your body to begin to burn the excess fat you have stored up. You’ll also want to eliminate all your sources of refined sugars. Sodas are the biggest offenders here, but coffee with any form of sweetener will slow down your weight loss as well.
For your normal meals, try and limit your caloric intake to about 600 calories. If you have two protein drinks during the day (breakfast and dinner) with a 600 calorie lunch and little to no snacking (apples and unsalted almonds are okay in small amounts) you’ll be on a 1,200-1,400 calorie diet, and your body will overnight become a fat burning machine.
Toss in a little walking (a mile or so to begin if you are in any reasonable shape, less if you are not) and you are only a month away from dropping as much as 30 pounds, safely.
